How to Submit Your Entry to the Festival

The Third Annual Orillia Film Festival will be held over 2 nights, with a special Local Talent Night at 7 PM on September 25 and the Open Category and Award Night at 7 PM on September 26, with both shows at the Orillia Opera House.  All submitted films will be considered for screening at both nights.  There are three ways to submit a film to the Festival, 1) Withoutabox, or 2) submit a DVD with payment by mail or deliver in person, or 3) send a link to a screener service like Vimeo with your payment send via Paypal (see below).

ELIGIBILITY

- Maximum length: 8 minutes – films that exceed the maximum length will not be considered.
- Submit 1 DVD screening copy clearly labeled with your name, contact information and the film’s title and 1 DVD digital copy (Quicktime file) or use Withoutabox’s online screening option
- Submit a complete credit list (director, producer, actors, etc)
- Entries must be available for screening at the festival on DVD.
- Entries previously submitted and not accepted may not be resubmitted.
- Misrepresentation, incorrectly completed entry forms or missing information may lead to the disqualification of your submission.
- If your film is selected, the Orillia Film Festival reserves the right to promote it in media campaigns and to reproduce the film for internal and/or promotional use, and post it on our website and social media.
- Entries must be accompanied by a completed submission form and the $20 entry fee
- Submission screening copies must be sent in protective packaging. The Orillia Film Festival is not responsible for lost or damaged submissions. Submissions will not be returned.

DEADLINE:

August 7, 2015 – 5:00 pm in person, 12:00 pm online. Sorry, but late submissions will not be considered.

AWARDS:

Films and videos are judged on the basis of quality, originality, technical execution, and content by an impartial jury. The rulings of the jury are final and are not open to appeal. Depending on the number of submissions, a curator may select finalists for jury consideration. The top three films, as chosen by the Orillia Film Festival Jury will receive 6 free tickets to both nights and the following monetary awards:
1st place: $500 plus a copy of Final Draft 9.0 and Cyberlink’s award winning software Power Director 13 Ultimate Suite
2nd place: $300 plus a copy of Final Draft 9.0 and Cyberlink’s award winning software Power Director 13 Ultimate Suite
3rd place: $200​ plus a copy of Final Draft 9.0 and Cyberlink’s award winning software Power Director 13 Ultimate Suite

PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD

This $250 award goes to the film that receives the most audience votes in the real-time polling that will occur at the end of the Award Night.  Anyone in the audience with a cell phone can vote (once).  Usual data and transmission fees apply, but the vote itself is free.

MY ORILLIA AWARD

This $500 award goes to the best film made within 5 km of Orillia that portrays a positive aspect of the community either through interviews, reminiscences, basic storytelling, animation, promotion, musical performance, humour, or documentary.  Films could also portray “What Orillia Means to Me” in a positive light.  This category is open to any age group of current or former residents of Orillia.  Sponsored by the Orillia Economic Development Committee.  Submissions to this category may be used to promote Orillia and the region to tourists, visitors, and neighbouring communities, showcasing positive attributes of the community, its history, diversity, and industrial, cultural, and social impacts.

ORILLIA HOME GROWN AWARD

Submissions to the Orillia Film Festival may be considered for the Home Grown Award for Best Local Film, which has a cash prize of $200 plus a copy of Cyberlink’s award winning software Power Director 13 in addition to any other awards received.  Sponsored by Dr Kevin Vennard.  To qualify as “Orillia Home Grown” a film must:
- Have been filmed within 50 km of Orillia, Ontario, Canada or
- Have been written or directed by a former or current Orillia resident or
- Have a defendable connection to Orillia, as judged by the Orillia Film Festival Jury

BEST LOCAL YOUTH FILM AWARD:

Film-makers under the age of 19 with an Orillia connection will be eligible for the best Local Youth Film Award, with a cash prize of $250 in addition to any other awards received. Sponsored by the Orillia Rotary Club

BEST “GREEN” FILM AWARD:

The Simcoe North Federal Green Party Association are the sponsors of this $200 award, to be granted to the film that best reflects any or all of the core Green values of: Ecological Wisdom, Non-violence, Social Justice, Sustainability, Participatory Democracy, and Respect for Diversity.
